The Fishing Report: Halibut, rockfish and Orcas out of Seward
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - At the end of July fishing opportunities are plentiful across Alaska.
For Capt. Levi Rangel with Alaska Dream Charters, this time of year is perfect for multi-species trips.“We have a lot of fish in the water. A lot of different species. There’s bait everywhere,” Rangel said. “You kinda can’t miss this time of year when it comes to the amount of bait in the water, which is good, but it’s bad. It makes it a lot harder to pinpoint certain fish, but the nice thing is that it brings in a plethora of species so that’s the nice part about it.”
With the bait comes other species higher up the food chain. Though heavy fog shrouded much the beautiful mountains views through Resurrection Bay as the boat headed towards the fishing grounds, the fog eventually lifted just enough for the group to spot a pod of orcas a few hundred yards away.
