A chilly start to the new year

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Much of Alaska, including Southcentral, will start off 2021 on the chilly side. Temperatures in the Interior will stay near zero. Northern coastal locations should expect temperatures to drop between 20 and 25 below tonight. Wainwright is under a Blizzard Warning until 6 p.m. on Friday with winds to 45 mph, blowing snow and wind chills near 50 below.

Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valleys will see clear skies but chilly temperatures. Look for highs only to the mid to upper teens for the first day of 2021.

Another round of rain and snow is expected to move into the Central and Southern Panhandle by the evening on Friday.
