ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A stay at the Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge comes with an array of all-inclusive activities to enjoy as you explore Fox Island.

An inviting wood-fired sauna provides warmth and wellness after a brisk Alaska day — one filled with exploring all 3.4 miles of the island, with countless activities at your leisure.

You can a hike up one of the peaks covered in lush greenery, but the trail is mostly unmaintained and not for the faint of heart. Those who have made it to the top say you can see views for about 100 miles out.

For those who prefer to stay closer to sea level, paddle boats await guests at the edge of the lagoon. Or give your legs a rest and put your arm strength to the test with a guided kayak tour around the island, which is also included in the price you pay upfront.

Our tour with Sunny Cove Kayaking took us up close and personal with some of the islands waterfalls, nooks and crannies. According to our guide, Andrew Smith, just getting on the water in Alaska should be a part of anyone’s adventure bucket list.

“We have the largest coastline in the nation,” Smith said. “There’s massive diversity of places you can paddle here, or get on a boat, if paddling is not your thing. Get in a boat just get out and just see this environment on the water.”

Once back on shore, try combing the beach at low tide and you’re bound to find some treasures. A calming stroll along the shore reveals countless seashells and sea stars.

Our two-night stay wrapped up with a trip back to Seward on a wildlife cruise with Kenai Fjords Tours. Even on a foggy day, Resurrection Bay was a sight to behold.

We were met by pods of resident orcas hunting salmon and a few humpback whales showing us their tails. We also made our way to Holgate Glacier, rounding off our cruise of endless awe inspiring views.

If exploring untouched, pristine Alaska wilderness in an eco-friendly way is on your bucket list, you’ve found your next vacation.
