ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - About 12 miles off the coast of Seward, in the heart of Resurrection Bay, adventure awaits on Fox Island. We were headed to the Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge.

Even the ride to the lodge is an experience. A 45-minute boat tour takes you through Kenai Fjords National Park, rich with curious wildlife, outflowing glaciers and some of the most picturesque views you can only get in Alaska.

We barely said goodbye to Seward before we were met with a sea otter having a snack. Children and adults alike looked on as our boat captain spouted interesting facts about sights we were seeing.

“They actually eat 25% to 30% of their body weight every single day,” said Captain Mike Boyce. “Can you believe that?”

Once the boat makes its way to Fox Island, it’s time for a bit of R&R. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for some guests, but for the Brantley family, a day trip to the island is a family tradition.

“We are just here kicking off the summer with our family from southern Utah, and when they come up we always try and come on a Fox Island tour,” said mom, Sami Brantley. “This is our first time taking all three kids.”

The children collected treasures along the shore and skipped rocks before heading inside the day lodge for lunch.

“I don’t think that there’s any particular place that Alaska doesn’t seem to amaze you. It’s just absolutely glorious and it’s the last frontier,” Brantley said.

Even a quick stop on the island will leave you with lasting memories. But as the boat headed back, we were in for two-night stay to experience what the lodge was all about.
