ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A dead woman was found at the Nunaka Valley baseball fields in East Anchorage early Tuesday morning and police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Officers with the Anchorage Police Department responded to the fields, located on Craig Drive, just after 4 a.m., according to a community alert from the department.

The woman was found with trauma to her upper body, police said, and the department’s crime scene team is responding to the area to process the scene.

On Thursday, Anchorage police identified the woman as 18-year-old Katelynn Shelhamer. They wrote in an updated release that detectives believe the incident was not random, but that it was isolated.

Shelhamer’s family have been notified.

Anyone with information is asked to call dispatch at 311.
