ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Anchorage Police Department identified the man found dead Wednesday morning after receiving reports of gunfire in the area of East 12th Avenue and Hyder Street.

A Friday morning Nixle community alert said the victim is 25-year-old Dvonte Castro. It added that detectives believe the shooting was not random and is an isolated incident. The next of kin have been identified.

The initial community alert said police also transported an injured woman who was found at the scene to the hospital. No update has been provided on the woman’s condition, nor an explanation about what caused her injuries.

Both individuals were found by Anchorage police officers that responded to the area just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a community alert sent by the department.

East 12th Avenue between Gambell Street and Ingra Street was closed while police investigated. Hyder Street was also closed between East 11th Avenue and East 13th Avenue.

The department’s crime scene team also responded to the scene. People were asked to avoid the area during their investigation

Anyone with information or video footage is asked to call police dispatch at 311.
