High school football players back on the field
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - It may only be June, but gridiron gangs across Anchorage are getting back on the field for some early season practice.
The team at West Anchorage High School had its fourth practice so far in this early season on Tuesday, and onlookers could really start to see the kids come together.
Players are eager to get back to a normal season after pandemic practices last year forced them to stick to small groups and limit contact in a contact-driven sport. Fans will also be back this season, which will be an adjustment for some of the players, but for others it is all about the play on the field.
“People to me don’t really matter because at the end of the day it is just me and my boys trying to win the game and that’s it,” said West High senior Brendan Amiatu. “It don’t matter how many people want to come watch, it is just, hey did you see us win? Yup, here it is”
Official Anchorage School District practice start July 28 and the first game of the season will kick off on August 13.
