A record snowfall for Anchorage, then cooling

Now comes the effort to plow and shovel all the snow!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A winter storm dumped snow on Anchorage. The storm total for the city since Monday night is about 12 inches. School was canceled Wednesday and will be again on Thursday. Glen Alps — one of the highest elevation neighborhoods in the city — saw a staggering 22 inches of snow from the snowstorm.

Snowfall amounts ranged from 12 to 18 inches around the city, and 10 to 15 inches in the valleys to Big Lake.

The storm that generated the snow record for Anchorage moves to menace the Panhandle with a rain and snow mixture, and rain. With the storm’s departure, temperatures in Southcentral will start dropping.

Hot spot today was Metlakatla with 45 degrees and Northway was the cold spot with a temperature of 5 below zero.
