Taylor joins the newsroom as a Multimedia Journalist – meaning the majority of his stories are shot, written, and edited solo.
Taylor originally hails from The Sunshine State and says most of his childhood was spent fishing on the Gulf, or enjoying the crystal clear springs in the Ocala National Forest.
Florida proved to be a great place to build his foundation in the world of news, earning a degree from the Zimmerman School of Broadcasting and Mass Communication at the University of South Florida in Tampa Bay. That's also where got his feet wet in broadcast news, securing an internship with WFLA News Channel 8. There, Taylor learned what it meant - and what it took - to be a solid reporter. Following beats, interviewing "every day" and powerful people alike, and shadowing and being mentored by some of the best reporters in the state of Florida.
After graduation, Taylor was hired by KFVS-TV, the #1 news station in ‘The Heartland,’ and a sister station to KTUU-TV (also owned by Gray Telelvision). KFVS has a large new market covering a five state radius. In the Southern Illinois bureau, Taylor was part of a three person news team sharing the responsibility of covering the entire Illinois region of the market.
He says the Midwest was the perfect training ground for a young journalist. For two years, he chased tornadoes; listened to the woes of farmers in a trade war; reported on some of the worst flooding on record in the state; and watched municipalities struggle to deal with a drug crisis, to name a few areas of focus.
That hard work paid off in 2019, as Taylor and several coworkers at KFVS were nominated for a prestigious Emmy award, for their team coverage of an EF-2 tornado ripping through Paducah, KY.
Now getting settled into his new role at KTUU, Taylor is looking forward to getting to know Alaska -- and his fellow Alaskans -- as well as tackling new journalistic challenges in the Last Frontier.
