A five-year-old child carried an 18-month-old to a neighbor's house a half-mile from their house in -31°F temperatures after a woman left the two in her home without supervision in Venetie, a remote area in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area nearly 300 miles north of Fairbanks.
According to troopers, the five-year-old became scared when the power in the house went out and decided to go to the neighbor's house, carrying the infant child in just light clothing and socks.
Troopers say both children received cold-related injuries.
After troopers arrived on a chartered aircraft 37-year-old Julie Peter was arrested and eventually booked into the Fairbanks Correctional Center on a charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in the First Degree.
