A look inside Ted Stevens International Airport's lost and found

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport sees more than five million passengers a year, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to find out that hundreds of items are left there every month.

In October alone, nearly 550 items were dropped off at the airport’s lost and found, a small room on the bottom floor filled with stuff… lots and lots of stuff.

From electronics to wheel chairs, a variety of items make their way to the lost and found. Coordinator Tamala Coughlin says a guinea pig and rabbit have even showed up.

“Things are brought to me by various people, facility workers, TSA and airport police and of course anyone that finds something laying around,” said Coughlin. Items are then logged into a system and kept in lost in found for up to three months.

Coughlin says nearly half of the items are picked up by owners, the other half is boxed up and taken to a local non-profit organization like the Arc of Anchorage or Pioneer Homes.
