A man in Shishmaref, AK found an actual message in a bottle while out and about earlier this week.
“I was just looking for firewood when I found the bottle,” Tyler Ivanoff says, ”When I found the bottle I had to use a screwdriver to get the message out.”
Someone commented on the post with a possible translation:
“A heartfelt hello from the Russian far-eastern fleet of Vladivostok.
Greetings to you. Whoever finds this bottle is asked to inform this address: city of Vladivostok - 43 ВДХФ п/б Сулак. Attention all hands, I wish everyone good health, longevity, and happy sailing
June 20th, 1959”
Ivanoff says the message was dated June 20, 1969.
He adds he still has the bottle and he is actually in contact with news organizations in Russia to find the author.
According to Russian media sources, the boat named in the message was built in Japan in 1966 and sold for scrap metal in 1992.
