Anchorage police say a Friday night death investigation is now being ruled a homicide.
In a release sent Saturday morning, APD stated the male victim was shot in what appears to be "a targeted and drug-related crime." The victim's identity has not been publicly released at this time.
Police are requesting anyone with surveillance video in or around the area to share the footage with detectives.
Anchorage Police are on scene investigating a death in South Anchorage in the 8900 block of Dewberry St.
MJ Thim, a public affairs spokesperson with APD, says the dead man was found inside a dark sedan that had been blocking traffic. The man's death is being treated as suspicious.
Late Friday night, police said the man was found when people approached the sedan, which was blocking traffic. It was reported shortly after 7 p.m.
Thim says that the area will be closed for traffic for the next few hours. APD asks that the public avoid the area of Dewberry St. between Chaparral Circle and Dimond Blvd.
Police are asking any possible witnesses or those with surveillance video or photos to contact APD through the non-emergency number at 786-8900 or call Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
