APD: one person injured in party shooting
Anchorage police say a man was shot at a party in Mountain View Sunday morning.
According to a release from APD, officers were dispatched to the 800-block of N. Lane St. shortly before 2 a.m. “According to witnesses there had been a large party in one of the apartments, attended by approximately two dozen people, when multiple shots were fired by at least two individuals.”
By the time officers arrived on scene, most of the party-goers had left. Police found several shell casings outside the building, but did not specify what kind of guns had been used.
Police wrote the male victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle with at least five other people inside. The man’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Desiree Britt lives in the apartment next door to where the party was happening. She says she first heard about five gunshots from inside the unit, and then several more outside on the street about a minute later.
“The cops responded pretty fast,” Britt said. “I grabbed my daughter off the bed and we were huddled together on the floor because if there were any stray bullets I didn’t want to risk it.
Video footage from a KTUU viewer appears to show a sedan driving away from the apartment while the front passenger fires multiple rounds directly up into the air. The vehicle is followed closely by a second. Several people can be heard screaming outside.
A possible motive for the shooting is still under investigation. APD said no arrests have been made in the case at this time. Investigators are asking for anyone who might have witnessed the shooting or been at the party to contact Dispatch on the non-emergency 311 line, if they have not already spoken with police.
