Update - 1:45 p.m.:

At this time, the Anchorage Police Department reports that the armed Hillside suspect has been located and taken into custody.

If any Hillside area resident discovers they are missing a gun safe, APD Spokesperson MJ Thim advises the citizen to contact police at (907) 786-8900.

Original Story - 1:33 p.m.:

The Anchorage Police Department is searching for a suspect in Hillside that officers believe is "armed and dangerous."

MJ Thim, a public affairs spokesperson with APD, writes that a suspicious truck was reported around 11:15 a.m., in the 8000-block of Alatna Avenue.

A woman and man were allegedly inside the vehicle, which was said to be dragging a gun safe. Thim writes that police managed to stop the truck and apprehend the woman; however, the man fled on foot.

According to Thim, the man was then able to steal a different truck in the area, but police later found it abandoned near Hillside Drive and O'Malley Road.

The suspect is described as an adult Samoan. Police say he is 6-feet tall and approximately 190 pounds. In addition, the suspect is said to be wearing a grey shirt and black pants, which are possibly rolled up.

Thim says if anyone sees the suspect, they are asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. APD advises the public to

not

approach the suspect.
