Alaska Airlines employees recovering following kidney transplant
Two Alaska Airlines employees are recovering after one donated her kidney to the other.
Captain Jodi Harskamp volunteered to give flight attendant Jenny Stansel a kidney. Both are based in Anchorage, but they had the surgery Monday at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.
Harskamp wrote in a statement that everything in the surgeries went as planned.
"We really appreciate the love and support we've received through this process and our focus now is to heal and spend time with our loved ones," Harskamp wrote.
Stansel has had kidney disease for the past 15 years, and when she needed a transplant, Harskamp volunteered.
Harskamp will have to be cleared by a flight surgeon and the FAA before she can fly planes again. She hopes to return to work in a month.
Stansel's recovery will take longer.
