The American Mother organization named Anna Joy Luckett the Alaska Mother of the Year.

Luckett said she has spent countless nights rocking babies through detox or comforting little ones with relentless nightmares.

"For my children, I absolutely love them and they have not gotten a fair shake at life and most of those kids in foster care are in the same situation," said Luckett.

Luckett is a mother of five, with three adoptive daughters, plus a biological son and a foster daughter.

Luckett said one of her kids has been diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FSAD) and two of her children are being tested and receiving therapy for FSAD.

"Several of my kids have that diagnosis of FASD," said Luckett. "If we do not do something we are going to lose an entire generation of people to incarceration."

Alaska's mother of the year's mission is to bring awareness to people with FASD and education other on ways to help people with FASD.

"A lot of them don't have impulse control or they don't have the ability to react as fast," said Luckett.

Luckett also has a heart for supporting girls who have experienced trauma.

The mother of five said Alaska has so much domestic violence, she wanted to do something that makes a difference.

Luckett works with families to help them gain parenting skills to help reunite with their kids.
