Alaska's governor has proposed supplemental payouts to residents from the state's oil-wealth fund of about $1,300, which would be on top of the roughly $1,600 checks they received last fall.

The Legislature last year approved an Alaska Permanent Fund dividend that amounted to about $1,600.

The state Revenue Department has said the amount would have been $2,910 had a formula in state law been followed.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy's proposal would make up the rest of the 2019 amount. The formula has not been followed in recent years amid a budget deficit.

Many lawmakers say the formula is unsustainable.
