The Alaska Department of Fish and Game are predicting poor returns for Kenai River king salmon in the upcoming early run and late run fishing season.
ADF&G forecast during the early run to see about 4,800 fish.
Which according to the Associated Press would rank as the eighth-lowest return in the last 35 years but higher than last year’s run of more than 4,200 fish.
As for the late run, ADF&G forecast close to 22,700 large fish.
“ADF&G understands that anglers, guides, and local businesses are better served by preseason and timely management decisions,” stated Sport Fish Cook Inlet Coordinator Matt Miller. “However, it is prudent to hold off making any preseason management decisions prior to the Board of Fisheries meeting. The board will be considering actions that could impact these fisheries.”
