An Alaskan author and mother, shares her story of exploring the state through the Marine Highway with the release of her second book.

"There has never been a better time to see Alaska with children," Erin Kirkland with AK On The Go said, "given the current state of affairs and climate change and the fact that Alaska is much more accessible than it used to be this is an opportunity to take future stewards of Alaska out and about."

Kirkland's book focuses on the uniqueness of traveling through Alaska using the ferry system.

She encourages those traveling and even longtime residents to explore the largest state in the nation.

It all started back in 2009 when she took her first two week trip to the south east part of the state.

Kirkland says she realized after blogging about her ferry trip people really wanted more information on how get their kids up here.
