Anchorage Assembly member Forrest Dunbar filed a candidate registration form for the 2021 Anchorage mayoral election Sunday.
Dunbar first won his seat representing District 5, Seat H in 2016, and was re-elected by a wide margin in the 2019 municipal election after running unopposed.
In his first campaign for public office in 2014, Dunbar challenged incumbent Republican Rep. Don Young, drawing 41 percent of the vote in a three-way general election after winning the Democratic primary by a wide margin. Young won with 51 percent of the vote.
Dunbar, who obtained a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a JD from Yale Law School, currently works part-time as a corporate attorney and serves in the Alaska Army National Guard.
He is the first candidate to file for the 2021 mayoral election.
