A man was arrested Monday following an armed robbery at a grocery store in South Anchorage.

Chase Walters, now 35, was also

where he refused police commands while wielding a knife. That incident happened on Nov. 16, 2017, and the case was disposed two weeks later, and eventually closed.

In the incident on Jan. 29, Walters once again possessed a knife, and this time used it to rob the Carrs location on Huffman Road.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, Walters stole groceries and "pulled a knife on store security after being confronted in the parking lot."

He then got into a blue Saturn, being driven by another individual, and fled the scene. However, the vehicle would not elude police for long, thanks in part to someone who witnessed the robbery.

"A citizen witnessed the robbery," APD wrote. "He began to follow the vehicle while calling Police Dispatch."

The witness continued to follow the car and provide directions to police over the phone, until they eventually detained the Saturn behind the Dimond Center Hotel.

Walters got out of the car and tried to run away, but was caught "fairly quickly, police said. The driver of the Saturn was determined to not have been involved in the robbery, and police said the driver didn't even know that any theft had taken place. "The driver thought Walters had purchased the groceries," police wrote.

This is the second time in three months that Walters was apprehended in a knife incident.

According to court records, the court case for that knife point standoff incident was closed on Dec. 1. In the Carrs robbery, Walters was arraigned on Tuesday, and is scheduled back in court near the end of Feb.
