Anchorage firefighters extinguish house fire, neighbors say it's been abandoned
A vacant home went up in flames early Thursday morning before firefighters with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to extinguish it.
Alex Boyd, assistant chief with AFD, said that the call came in at 5:22 a.m., when a neighbor saw flames leaping up the side of the structure on the 4000 block of Parsons Street.
Neighbors in the area told Channel 2 that the home has been vacant for some time after being apparently abandoned. The windows were boarded up and a notice was hung on the structure that it is to be vacated.
Boyd said that 11 units helped put out the fire while the home burned. He said that no one was inside when they arrived on the scene, and no injuries were reported to them.
"There's no indicaiton that there were people living in the home at the time of the fire," Boyd said of legitimate residences.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
