Anchorage woman shot inside home by someone outside her window
One woman is in the hospital after being shot in the torso. The shooter, police say, was standing outside her apartment, and fired directly through a window. The suspect then allegedly took off on foot.
The call came in to police before 10 p.m. on Thursday. It was reported that a shooting had occurred in the 200 block of Meyer Street.
When police arrived, they found that some kind of disturbance had occurred outside of the apartment building.
"We can just say that it was an altercation, we have a lot of conflicting reports about what happened outside," said MJ Thim, spokesperson for APD.
Inside the building, they found a woman who had been shot in the torso. Other people were home when she was shot, but they did not witness it, Thim said.
Now, they're looking for a man who was seen near the apartment building at the same time as the shooting. They are not treating him as a suspect, but are instead "hoping that he can help us fill in the blanks as to what happened," according to Thim.
APD issued photos of the man, and a description of his clothing, including "light colored pants, dark jacket, dark hat, backpack with light blue/teal straps and possibly a scarf."
Police say that the event was not a random shooting, however they still can't say how the suspect may have been acquainted with the shooter, or what happened outside of the apartment prior to the shooting.
The victim's wounds are not considered to be life-threatening.
