The Federal Bureau of Investigation says a 41-year-old has been arrested in connection to the disappearance of 10-year-old Ashley Johnson-Barr.
According to an email sent Friday night, Peter Wilson, of Kotzebue "is facing charges of making false statements to a federal agent. He's being transferred to Anchorage to face these charges."
The body of 10-year-old Ashley Johnson-Barr was found late Friday afternoon according to Alaska State Troopers.
The agency issued the written statement Friday evening. It reads:
Barr-Johnson went missing last Thursday. She was last seen playing in a Kotzebue park and never made it home.
A massive search including state-volunteer law enforcement agencies and volunteers throughout the region has been underway for days, along with vigils across the state.
AST communications director Jonathan Taylor, reached by phone, said the investigation is ongoing.
