An assault suspect has barricaded himself inside a Campbell Park home and police are on scene trying to get him to surrender, Anchorage police wrote in a Thursday morning press release.

Officers responded to the home on the 2900 block of Misty Springs Ct. after a woman contacted APD at 3:30 a.m. Thursday to report that her daughter had been assaulted by her significant other inside the home.

“It was reported to police that the daughter was able to make it out of the home,” APD wrote in a statement. “Further investigation has found that the male had assaulted the female a few days prior.”

Officers responded to the residence but have been unable to make contact with the potentially dangerous suspect inside.

“He has barricaded himself inside the residence, is believed to be armed with firearms and may be under the influence of drugs,” APD says.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect on two charges of assault as well as a kidnapping charge. Police say the suspect had previously prevented the woman from leaving the home.

“Officers have the area contained and are working to get the suspect to surrender to police peacefully,” APD says.

This is the second police standoff in as many days in Anchorage.
