Hatcher Pass Road closed amid high avalanche danger
Hatcher Pass is closed near Archangel – near mile 15.5 – due to a Monday morning avalanche, according to DOT&PF Avalanche Specialists.
The large, natural avalanche took place at 8:30 a.m. Moreover, DOT&PF Avalanche Specialists say that Hatcher Pass avalanche conditions are "very dangerous" this Monday.
As a result, a
was issued by the Alaska Avalanche Information Center. It is in effect from 10 a.m. March 19 through March 20.
Due to the high risk of area avalanches, DOT&PF closed the road.

During this time, avalanche forecasters ask that the public avoid driving up the road and skiing along the road run.
