UPDATE, Monday 3/26:

Early Monday morning, the Anchorage Police Department confirmed the identity of the young man killed in the incident.

In APD's statement, they say Zander M. Clark, 20, was killed in Saturday night's "officer-involved shooting" on Penland Parkway.

As of Sunday night, Anchorage police have not publicly identified the man shot and killed by an officer Saturday night. However, a family member told Channel 2 News the man is Zander Clark.

Anchorage police are investigating a deadly shooting involving an officer. According to a press release sent by the department Saturday night, the incident began with a call for a domestic violence related stabbing near the Home Depot at 400 Rodeo Pl.

APD wrote a male and female were walking together in the parking lot of the store when they were involved in a verbal disagreement. “The male pulled a knife and stabbed the female. The victim ran into Home Depot with a non-life-threatening injury,” the release states.

Police say the man then slashed at least two tires on parked cars and ran from the scene. APD wrote the man was spotted in the parking lot of Burger King by an officer and reportedly ignored commands before heading into the Penland Parkway mobile home park.

“After entering the trailer park the suspect turned around, with knife in hand, and ran straight towards the officer. The officer fired; the suspect was declared deceased at the scene,” According to APD.

Police policy dictates that the officers involved will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol for the department.

The case will be reviewed by the State Office of Special Prosecutions. APD said an investigation with the Office of Special Prosecutions will determine if the use of force was justified and the Office of Professional Responsibility will investigate to determine if the officers’ actions were within policy.
