A two-hour bake sale in Nome raised more than $1,800 for the victims of a deadly fire at the Polaris Bar and Hotel.

, causing several people to lose personal belongings and in need of shelter.
“We wanted to do something to help make up for their loss so we put on a bake sale,” Lean said.
NSHC sponsored the sale, but it required dozens of sweets from employees, volunteers and community members. Lean said nearly every item sold out during the sale.
The money will be evenly distributed to those who were displaced by the fire, according to Lean.
Although the Red Cross stepped in to help the victims of the fire, Lean said anyone who may still be in need of clothing or other supplies can contact her at 907-443-9674 to be put in contact with additional resources.
