Anchorage residents can now post selfies with their ballot on social media.
Posting a photo or video of your municipal ballot was previously illegal under city code, but a recent ordinance passed by the Anchorage Assembly changed that.
“This rewrite of Title 28 has been in the works for well over 6 months,” said Assembly member Pete Petersen, the sponsor of the ordinance.
The ordinance also streamlines the setup, collection, and counting of ballots, particularly through the vote-by-mail system the city adopted in 2018.
While it is legal to post your ballot, the code does still prohibit showing that picture to anyone while within 200 feet of a polling location.
