'Hard to believe.' Childhood friend of alleged Fairbanks gunman McKay Hutton speaks out
Hard to believe. That’s how James Davenport describes the news of childhood friend McKay who allegedly killed three people before turning the gun on himself, according to the Fairbanks Police Department.
“It's hard to believe what they have discovered so far,” said Davenport. “I would just never in a million years see McKay doing that."
Police say the four victims in the shooting were 54-year-old Linda Hutton, 22-year-old Emily McDonald and 8 week old Teagan Hutton.
Davenport says that was McKay’s mother, child and wife.
“I met him in 6th grade, and we would do everything together ride four-wheelers, hunting, and going to the fair,” said Davenport.
McKay’s childhood friend describes him as fun and always a good person to be around.
“It was just a great time whenever we hangout.,” said Davenport.
Even though the two hadn’t seen each other in a while, James said he saw no signs that his friend would do something like this.
“His life was pretty much just getting started,” said Davenport.
Davenport said that McKay recently had a major injury that sent him to the hospital.
“(He had) health issues going on in the past couple months, and I’m not sure if that has been affecting him a whole lot,” said Davenport.
Police say there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved, details involving the shooter or any motive are still under investigation.
