Court docs reveal new details in March homicide case

Murder suspect, Samson Costigan faced an Anchorage judge Saturday after being arrested less than 24 hours earlier.

According to charging documents, a witness told investigators he was in a driveway on Dewberry Street and saw the shooting. “Costigan exchanged words with Stough who was seated in the driver’s seat of the impala on Dewberry street.”
Investigators wrote Costigan allegedly then went into the backseat of a Chevy Blazer and grabbed a rifle. “Stough was leaving the area, backing the Impala down Dewberry Street, when Costigan shot him,” the affidavit states.

Costigan faces charges for murder 1 and 2, as well as tampering with physical evidence. APD wrote the rifle believed to have been used in the killing has not been located.
In a community alert sent earlier this month by APD, police warned the public that Costigan should be considered "armed and dangerous." During his arraignment he told the judge he receives a monthly pension from the VA for disability.
Records show Costigan has prior convictions for assault and violating a protective order.
