DOT announces two private ferry trips with state service halted

The Alaska Department of Transportation announced that it had contracted with a private company for two round-trips from Juneau.
The trips, contracted by Allen Marine, are scheduled to leave Auke Bay on Feb. 29 and March 3. Passengers will have an 80-pound luggage limit.
DOT announced that the sailings would stop at communities that have struggled without ferry service. Both sailings have the same schedules:
Juneau – Allen Marine Dock, 13391 Glacier Hwy
Departure 7:00 am
Kake – OVK Dock
Arrival 12:00 pm
Departure 12:30 pm
Angoon – Seaplane float
Arrival 3:15 pm
Departure 3:45 pm
Tenakee – Seaplane float
Arrival 5:15 pm
Departure 5:45 pm
Juneau – Allen Marine Dock
Arrival 7:45 pm

Ferry service for most of Southeast Alaska has ground to halt with the state’s ferries either undergoing repairs or in an annual overhaul.
