The Alaska Department of Transportation has issued two citations to a company and driver for a crash into the Tudor Rd. overpass last week.

The crash has damaged a bridge girder and re-routed northbound Seward Highway traffic around the overpass.

Kelly Inc., doing business as A-1 Lawn and Landscaping has been cited for "Unsafe conditions forbidden" and "not wearing corrective lenses" for the strike on Jan. 3.

The non-criminal citations and fees, issued by the Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, total $450.

DOT says the driver was cited on Jan. 3 and has 30 days to respond before it goes to the Alaska Court System.

DOT says it will continue to work to recoup costs for the bridge repair in the coming months.

The department has asked the state for $1.5 million for repairs to the damaged overpass, though a spokesperson told Channel 2 this weekend that DOT would file a claim against the company's insurance.

A message left by KTUU for Kelly Inc. and A-1 Lawn and Landscaping — not to be confused with the unrelated business Kelly Lawn and Landscaping LLC — requesting comment was not returned prior to air.
