Dave Thorsness Rowing Competition promotes teamwork in the workplace
Local businesses put their staffers to the test at the Dave Thorsness Rowing Competition Sunday. In its 18th year, the annual competition is a chance to promote team-oriented work environments, and donate to local charity.
This year's recipient was the Covenant House Alaska, a non-profit providing shelter for homeless youth.
Each boat consists of eight rowers and one coxswain, who steers the boat and coordinates the rhythm of the rowers.
One seven-time participant shared why he keeps coming back.
"I like the team morale,” Michael Bishop said. “Just getting everybody together, especially people who haven't rowed before, just getting people together to have fun."
The event commemorates the Thorsness family, who organizers credit with bringing the sport of rowing to Anchorage.
