Downtown Anchorage may get a library. It's still in the planning stages now, but board members of the downtown library said it would be built in the core area of downtown for business people, tourists and young families.

It would have space for meetings as well as computers, books, CDs and DVDs.

"What we're trying to do is create a space that serves a lot of the needs of the community," said Roe Sturgulewski, a library board member.

He listed the Boardroom, in downtown Anchorage, as an example of one of the ways the library could fill the needs of people who work and live in the area.

Sturgulewski said the money to build the library mostly comes from donations and gifts, which so far totals up to $8.5 million.

He says it is still in the early planning stages, with a goal of starting construction in 2018.
