Driver in fatal September crash charged with murder, DUI
The driver involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash on the Glenn Highway in September was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time, Anchorage police said on Wednesday.
Jesse Stutzke, 25, has been charged with second degree murder, first degree assault and DUI.
Stutze was driving inbound on the highway. In the front passenger seat was 24-year-old Tishina Oskolkoff and in the rear passenger seat was 24-year-old Thomas Shetters.
Police say Stutze lost control of the vehicle and struck the median and guardrail at the McCarrey overpass. Shetters was declared dead at the scene while Stutze and Oskolkoff were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“Stutzke, who was on probation, did not want to get into trouble so he convinced [Oskolkoff] to say she was the driver instead (she was actually the front seat passenger),” said APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad.
An arrest warrant was issued for Stutzke and he was taken into custody by Anchorage traffic officers on Wednesday. Stutzke is being held at the Anchorage Jail.
“Tishina Oskolkoff has not been charged at this time but the investigation is ongoing,” police say.
