An Eagle River man who police say was suicidal was taken into custody Friday evening after allegedly barricading himself in his vehicle and later attempting to flee the scene.

Officers first responded to a home on the 20500 block of Eagle River Rd. shortly before 2:45 p.m. Friday to reports of a suicidal person.

APD says a 52-year-old adult male was barricaded inside his home, injured from a self-inflicted knife wound.

The man made verbal contact with police but refused to leave his home.

Police say that at some point, the man inflicted non-life threatening injuries on a family member who attempted to intervene before barricading himself inside a vehicle in the garage of the home.

After police moved a patrol car in front of the garage, the man attempted to back out, rolling his vehicle on top of the patrol car, until eventually surrendering.

The man was taken into custody and treated for his self-inflicted injuries. No officers were injured, according to APD.

The man is now charged with assault and criminal mischief for the damage caused to the patrol car.
