Early voting for the regular election begins Monday in the municipality of Anchorage.

A number of advocacy groups are encouraging Alaskans to take advantage of the perks of voting outside of Election Day.

Voters can cast ballots at City Hall, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. until April 3, 2017.

According to the election website, voters can also head to the Z.J. Loussac Library Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. with modified Sunday hours.

The Chugiak Senior Center will offer Chugiak and Eagle River ballots only starting March 27 through April 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will not be open on weekends or Election Day for voting, according to the election website.

To mark the start of early voting, several groups plan to host a rally at Town Square Park Monday at 11:45 a.m.

Following the rally the groups plan to march to city hall and vote.

Organizers say they want to encourage Alaskans to voice their opinions by participating in local elections.

"We see voting as really one of the key pillars to civic engagement and, to that healthy good democracy that we are so proud to in this country and then also here in our city," Evan Anderson, civic engagement coordinator at the Alaska Center said.

Supporters of early voting say the option allows people to skip long lines on Election Day and schedule voting around individual schedules.

Election Day for the city of Anchorage is Tuesday, April 4,2017.
