Earthquake vulnerability: Kodiak city council says many of their tsunami warning sirens aren't working
If a tsunami is headed for Kodiak, its City Manager says almost half of their warning sirens won't go off.
The problem was shared publicly in an update this week during a city council work session.
According to the Kodiak Daily Mirror, five sirens are out of order, including the one near the harbor.
Tsunami warning sirens were originally installed in the town in 50's and 60's with one of those still in working order today.
The Kodiak city council has made getting funding approved and repairs underway on the sirens their number 2 priority.
