Earthquake wakes Anchorage, Mat-Su residents early Tuesday

A brief earthquake rousted Anchorage and Mat-Su area residents early Tuesday morning after striking just over a dozen miles from the city.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the quake shook the area at around 5:45 a.m., with its epicenter located in the Knik Arm.

The U.S. Geological Survey listed its magnitude as 4.0, while the UAF Alaska Earthquake Center listed a 4.2 magnitude measurement.

Several residents immediately responded to the "Did you feel it?" section of the USGS website, which allows people to report their observations and add them to the collective record of the quake.
