Eklutna Tailrace opens for youth-only fishery this Saturday
Alaska Department of Fish and Game is opening a section of the Eklutna Tailrace to a youth-only fishery this Saturday, Aug. 17 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Anglers must be 15 years or younger to participate in the fishery, which includes the section from the confluence with the Knik River upstream to the pedestrian bridge. Youth do not need a sport fishing license and may use bait and multiple hooks -- no more than two single or treble hooks per line. The daily bag and possession limit for coho salmon is three.
The rest of the Tailrace will be open to fishing for anglers of all ages.
“We encourage adults to bring young anglers out to the Eklutna Tailrace on Saturday to give them a shot at catching coho salmon,” stated Assistant Area Management Biologist Samantha Oslund in a release.
