Fairbanks Police identify Sergeant Allen Brandt as the victim of the shooting this morning in downtown Fairbanks.

Sgt. Brandt is an 11-year veteran of the Fairbanks Police Department, and is currently in Anchorage recovering from multiple gun shot wounds.

A Fairbanks Police Officer is in an Anchorage hospital after being shot multiple times early Sunday Morning, and the suspect is still on the loose.

FPD says just after midnight, an officer was responding to a call of shots fired on the 300 block of 7th Avenue in Fairbanks.

“As multiple calls came in to the Dispatch Center,” FPD said in a Sunday press release, “a responding officer radioed that he was shot.”

The suspect then left the scene in the officer’s patrol car, but abandoned it a few blocks away.

He’s described as an Alaska Native man in his 20s wearing a dark jacket, dark pants, and a knit hat.

The officer, who’s name hasn’t been released, was shot multiple times and was flown to Anchorage for treatment.

Fairbanks Police are urging the public to be cautious. “The suspect is still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous,” police wrote.
