Fairbanks mother allegedly strangled to death by boyfriend
A woman and mother to two young children was killed on July 8th, police say, by her boyfriend.
Fairbanks police responded to a call of a woman not breathing just before 4 a.m. on the 8th. Robyn Gray, 28, was determined to be dead when FPD arrived on the scene. In a news statement, an FPD spokesperson said police at the scene said the death "appeared to be suspicious."
Police questioned Gray's boyfriend, Roberto Leal, Jr., 37, who lived with Gray and their two small children, one of which is 7 months old, the other two years old.
On July 11, Leal was arrested after investigators completed the autopsy examination on the victim's body. Yesterday morning the state medical examiner determined the death to have been caused by "strangulation/suffocation." Police classified this as a homicide, and arrested Leal later yesterday afternoon on murder charges.
The two young children were placed with family members, while Leal was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center.
Police have said that the investigation into the entire case is still ongoing, and are asking anyone with information about the homicide to contact them directly.
