Following search, 25-year-old found dead in Juneau
A 25-year-old in Juneau was declared dead after rescue groups discovered his body floating near a popular Juneau-area waterfall.
The search for Ryan Johanson, 25, of Juneau, began on Wednesday evening, according to a dispatch filed with the Alaska State Troopers.
Authorities say Johanson was hiking and after not being seen he was reported missing just before 7 p.m. in the area of Nugget Falls near the Mendenhall Glacier.
At 8:30 p.m., a search operation was launched to find Johanson, with search members of Juneau Mountain Rescue and SEADOGS actively looking for him.
Troopers say Johanson's body was found by a JMR member just after 10 p.m., floating in the water near the falls.
The cause of death has not been identified, but troopers believe the death to be accidental.
An autopsy will be conducted on Johanson's body by the State Medical Examiner's office in Anchorage, however troopers say that they do not suspect any foul play.
In the report, troopers say they would "like to thank the members of SEADOGS, JMR, and Capital City Fire and Rescue for their assistance."
