The Thanksgiving Blessing has a total reach of 30,000 individuals, throughout the Anchorage area. As three individuals make up one family unit.

Original Story

On Monday, Nov. 21, the

leads the community driven Anchorage Thanksgiving Blessing event.

Between the Mat-Su Borough and the Anchorage Municipality, Food Bank of Alaska, alongside numerous partners, expects to distribute Thanksgiving groceries for approximately 10,000 families in need, with three individuals per family unit.

However, according to Feeding America’s

over 50,000 individuals in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Borough qualify as food insecure people.

Within the municipality and borough, this year’s Thanksgiving Blessing can only reach 3 in 5 local Alaskans in need.

And statewide, the number of food insecure people extends to over 105,000 individuals.

Karla Jutzi of Food Bank of Alaska says that donations, of both food and fund, are similar to last year, but the amount of families served has increased.
