Mobile eateries heading out on the streets is definitely a sign that warmer weather should be on its way and the first food truck gathering of the season is the Spenard Food Truck Carnival. But why not pick a shop front and stay in one location?
Erica Stimaker, the owner of Yeti Dogs says, one of the advantages is being able to go to the customers. "I'm set up at an office today, as opposed to the entire office out to a restaurant 30 minutes and you have your lunch and you are back to work," Stimaker said earlier this week.
"With a mobile unit, you don't have near the overhead as a normal brick-and-mortar restaurant," said Steven McDonald, owner of Back Porch Food Truck. "Your lease is like nothing compared to a brick-and-mortar. It is a lot cheaper a lot easier to start out with."
Both food truck owners will be at the Spenard Food Truck Carnival Thursday afternoon, along with many others.
They say Anchorage is becoming a destination for mobile meals and while you're embracing the new food culture you're also supporting the small community food trucks.
The carnival will open every Thursday through September from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
