Anchorage police are confirming today that the death investigation at the Econo Inn on 5th Avenue Monday was a homicide.

APD confirmed in a community Nixle today that Elliot L. Myas, 23, is being accused of the murder of a man that they say was the boyfriend of the alleged killer's mother.

Police say the still unnamed mother of Myas called police at 6:18AM on Monday when she could not wake up her boyfriend. He was later confirmed to be deceased at the hotel.

The resulting investigation states that on the Sunday prior, several people were present at the inn watching football. That's when, police say, the victim was "making fun of his girlfriend."

After that, he went to sleep, and was allegedly beaten by Myas.

Police later made the arrest on Myas, saying he will face charges Assault II and Manslaughter. He was booked at the Anchorage Jail.

The name of the victim in this case will be released once next of kin have been notified, police say.
