Ice climber rescued near Portage after falling 20 feet into a crevasse
A woman was reportedly injured after she fell 20 feet into a crevasse on Spencer Glacier in Portage, according to Alaska State Troopers.
The hiker, later identified as Julia O'Neil, 34, of Pennsylvania, was hiking on Monday when she apparently fell down the slope, sustaining what authorities called non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers were informed of the injury at around 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center was contacted and the 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons responded to find O'Neil.
O'Neil was hoisted into a helicopter and transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
