Juan Camarena arrested on federal ammunition charge

Juan Camerena, 51, is charged in federal court with possession of ammunition. Because Camarena has previously been convicted of crimes resulting in year-long or greater sentences, it's illegal for him to have firearms or ammunition that shipped or transported in interstate commerce, according to the federal complaint, filed Nov. 13.

The government unsealed its case Friday against Camarena, who troopers had sought as

. Camarena turned himself in Nov. 14, after law enforcement's desire to speak with him became widely publicized.

According to court records, Camarena has a half-dozen prior felony convictions, all from California.
